Ginger & Millet Congee for a Settled Stomach (Earth)

45 minutes 🍵 2 bowls Jin Yang

Congee is the centerpiece of Earth-element food care: warm, soft and easy on the system. Millet is traditionally seen as especially centering for the spleen-stomach.

This is food, not medicine.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup millet (or white rice)
  • 5 cups water
  • 3 slices fresh ginger
  • Pinch of sea salt

Method

  1. Rinse millet; combine with water and ginger in a pot.
  2. Bring to a boil, then simmer 35–45 minutes, stirring now and then.
  3. Ready when thick and porridge-like. Salt to taste.
  4. Eat warm and slowly, as a light breakfast or dinner.

When to reach for it

Traditional practice pairs this with Earth-time signals: bloating, post-meal fatigue, or a worried, overthinking mind. A calm, regular meal — not a treatment.
